- You'll need to use SharePoint Foundation 2010 instead of Windows SharePoint Services (WSS) 3.0.

- I had to wrestle with SQL Server, since I had 2008 R2 installed, and I ran into an obscure Sharepoint installation error that seemed to be related. According to a forum post, "I tried the approach of uninstalling SQL Server 2008 R2 and installing SQL Server 2008. That did it for me." I'm not entirely convinced that that was the solution, but eventually I did get it to work after I uninstalled SQL Server 2008 R2. And then installing SQL Server 2012 was another adventure! But I did that before installing MIM 2016, and all's well.
